Skin Allergies Consultation

At the Dermatology Clinic of Prof. Sofia Magina, Dr. Ana Paula Cunha, a dermatologist specializing in Cutaneous        in charge of the Cutaneous Allergy consultation. These are branches of Dermatology that focus on the investigation and diagnosis of the causes of contact eczemas and their impact on the patient's quality of life. Additionally, the evaluation of Skin Diseases arising from professional activities is also within Dr. Ana Paula Cunha's expertise.

In the Skin Allergies appointment we perform a global clinical evaluation of the skin and its cutaneous appendages, as well as allergy tests.

Cutaneous allergies can present in a range of manifestations, from mild to severe, significantly impacting patients' quality of life and health. These reactions may manifest as allergic or irritant contact eczema, urticaria, or drug allergy.

At our clinic, we employ patch tests, the only objective method of study available, to identify the cause of allergic or irritant contact allergies accurately.

It may also be necessary to perform a biopsy of the affected areas, as sometimes only histopathological examination confirms that it is dermatitis.

In both acute and chronic allergy manifestations, complaints often appear and worsen rapidly. Pruritus (itching) is the most frequent complaint, and red, swollen areas of skin gradually worsen, with serious consequences for daily life and often secondary infection from scratching.

Treatment should be initiated as early as possible after medical evaluation and appropriate study to conclude accurately on the cause of the allergy.

Allergens encountered in both daily life and professional activities, including dermatoses of professional origin, can be identified during a dermatology appointment. Evaluation of allergies by a specialist is crucial for accurate identification of the cause of the allergy, enabling patients to avoid further contact and resolve the issue effectively.
