Phototherapy
Phototherapy has long been a trusted method for treating various skin conditions and is considered a first-line treatment for psoriasis, vitiligo, and parapsoriasis. At Clínica de Dermatologia Prof.ª Sofia Magina, we offer state-of-the-art equipment for full-body narrowband UVB phototherapy (311nm) and photochemotherapy with psoralen and UVA (PUVA). We also have specialized equipment for localized treatments on hands and feet using topical PUVA.
Our treatments are administered by a skilled nursing team, and patients typically undergo two to three phototherapy sessions per week, depending on their specific condition, the type of phototherapy required, and their personal availability.
Before commencing phototherapy, patients undergo a thorough Dermatology Consultation. Based on the patient's condition and skin type, a tailored treatment plan is developed, outlining the initial dose, session frequency, and dose increment per session.
For topical photochemotherapy with PUVA on hands and feet, a 0.1% psoralen cream is applied locally 20 to 30 minutes before each session.
After completing 10-14 phototherapy sessions, patients are reevaluated to assess treatment effectiveness, adjust radiation dosage if necessary, and determine the number of sessions required to achieve the desired response.
