Epicutaneous Tests

Epicutaneus tests are conducted by Dr. Ana Paula Cunha and are the only objective method used to identify the cause of allergic contact or irritant dermatitis.

Based on the patient's medical history, including a thorough inquiry about their professional and occupational activities, a specific series of allergens is determined. Typically, the basic series from the Portuguese Group for the Study of Contact Dermatitis, consisting of 32 allergens, is applied. In selected cases, additional batteries of allergens and/or the patient's personal care products may be included.

The results are usually read at 72 hours, with the possibility of requiring an additional reading on the seventh day. This allows for the differentiation of irritant reactions from allergic reactions, using the semiquantitative scale established by the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group (ranging from 0 to +++).

Patients with positive patch test results are provided with detailed information regarding the allergens to avoid. Informative brochures about the main sources of these allergens are also provided.
